A group of civic minded Guatemalans ran Albergue Juvenil, a shelter for young boys, in downtown Guatemala City for more than 30 years.
They asked if we could take over the operation: lock, stock and barrel. In January of 1987 we received the building with 78 boys. The children were know to us since many of them were attending our school at Colegio “Tio Juan”. The transition was easy.
Albergue Juvenil (Juvenile Shelter) operated as a home for boys under our care until November 1991 when we moved the children to a much larger facility given to us by the Mayor of Guatemala City.
This new facility was comprised of four separate buildings with a soccer field, large patios and in a nice and ample area of town.
When the boys moved to zone 2, we opened our girls home at Albergue Juvenil.
